I'm Thankful
By Jack Prelutsky
I’m thankful for my baseball bat,
I cracked it yesterday,
I'm thankful for my checker set,
I haven't learned to play,
I’m thankful for my mittens,
One is missing in the snow,
I’m thankful for my hamsters,
They escaped a month ago.
I’m thankful for my basketball,
It’s sprung another leak,
I’m thankful for my parakeet.
It bit me twice last week,
I’m thankful for my bicycle,
I crashed into a tree,
I’m thankful for my roller skates,
I fell and scraped my knee.
I’m thankful for my model plane,
It’s short a dozen parts,
I’m thankful for my target game,
I’m sure I’ll find the darts,
I’m thankful for my bathing suit,
I came off in the river,
I’m thankful for so many things,
Except, of course, for liver!
After chatting with my sister I'm feeling a little silly so I had to find that poem that my mom and brother recited one Thanksgiving. On a real note:
1. I'm thankful for my sister Val, who is an inspiration to us all. She has lost nearly 50 pounds and still going strong. Cheers to you Val!
2. I'm thankful for my sister Holly who is very much like me and understands what I'm saying when I'm speaking less than English.
3. I'm thankful I have had so many interviews lately with prospective jobs, and hopefully soon I will be thankful that I have one of those jobs!
4. I'm thankful for the people around me that have experienced some parts of life that I haven't yet, and are there for me to give me advice and words of caution and support so that I don't have to experience some of the headaches or heartaches that they have had to.
5. I'm thankful for my mom. This should be like a 20 page essay. In short, she is always there when you need her, she is superwoman, she is understanding, helpful, caring, compassionate, funny, cute and an admirable, strong woman. I can remember as a kid she would wake up to drive us to school and now thinking back on that one- I don't know that I would be so sunshiney in the morning like she always was. She made me oatmeal different than everyone else's so I would eat breakfast because I only liked one specific flavor. She taught me more than I can possibly explain in one little thankful. My mom can do anything. She can put siding on a house, she can sew anything, she can fix plumbing issues, she can remodel a house... like I said- Superwoman. If I can be half the mom that my mom is, my future kids will be very lucky indeed. Thanks for inspiring me, Mom.

I remember that same poem. I remember reading it when I was a child. I somehow lost the book that it was in, and I don't remember the name of the book so I could order a new one. I would like to know, if you can give me that info that would be great.
